TRADING STATEMENT AND CAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENT
New Clicks anticipates that headline earnings per share (diluted and undiluted)
for the six months ended 29 February 2004 will be materially higher than the
corresponding reporting period of the previous year. In terms of the JSE
Securities Exchange SA Listing Requirements, "materially" is defined as being a
change of between 10% and 30%.
New Clicks" interim results will be released on SENS on Thursday, 22 April 2004.
Shareholders should note that the following will have an impact on the year-on-
year growth in earnings:
- UPD, which was acquired by New Clicks with effect from 1 January 2003, was
only included in the corresponding reporting period for two months, while the
results will be included for the full six month period this year.
- New Clicks Australia was sold in January 2004. Accordingly, its operating
profits for the four months to 31 December 2003 will be included in the group
results for the half year.
- The group"s retail trading brands have continued to trade largely in line with
the performance outlined in the Trading Update issued on SENS on 15 January
2004.
Note that Purchase Milton & Associates (PM&A) will be consolidated from 1 March
2004, following the approval for the transfer of 32 pharmacy licences to New
Clicks, as was announced on SENS on 4 March 2004.
The financial information on which this trading statement is based has not been
reviewed or reported on by the company"s auditors and shareholders are therefore
advised to exercise caution when trading in the shares until the results are
published.
