TRADING STATEMENT AND CAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENT
TRADING STATEMENT
In terms of the Listings Requirements of the JSE Securities Exchange South
Africa, a listed company is required to publish a trading statement as soon as
it becomes aware that its financial results for the next period to be reported
on will be materially different from those of the previous corresponding period.
"Materially" is defined as being a difference of between 10% and 30%.
CFM"s interim results for the six months ended 31 March 2004 will be materially
lower than those for the five month period to the end of September 2003 as
extrapolated to an equivalent six month period.
The lower earnings figure is primarily due to a substantially higher tax charge
in the current period.
This is mainly due to two factors:
the STC charge on the dividend paid in December 2003 ; and
a decrease in the proportion of income earned in tax jurisdictions subject to a
lower tax rate than the corporate rate in South Africa.
CAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENT
The above earnings information has not been reviewed and reported on by CFM"s
auditors. Shareholders are therefore advised to exercise caution when dealing
in CFM shares until the release of the interim results for the six months to 31
March 2004. These results are due for release on or about 17 May 2004.
