UPDATED TRADING STATEMENT AND EXTENSION OF CAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENT
On 23 February 2004, a trading statement and cautionary announcement was issued
by Tiger Brands at which time the board of directors had considered the forecast
results for the six-month period ending 31 March 2004. Those results comprised
the actual performance for the first 4 months to 31 January 2004 and the then
estimated results for the remaining period to 31 March 2004. The February
trading statement reflected that both attributable earnings and headline
earnings for the first six months were expected to show increases of between 10%
and 20% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Although the results for the six month period ended 31 March 2004 will only be
finalised and approved for release by the board on 13 May 2004, the board deems
it appropriate to advise shareholders that headline earnings for this period are
now expected to show an increase of between 20% and 30% compared to the
corresponding period last year. The higher percentage increase compared to that
reflected in the previous trading statement, arises primarily from a better
trading performance in the remaining period to 31 March 2004. Attributable
earnings are expected to remain within the range previously indicated.
Detailed commentary on the performance of the Company for the six months to 31
March 2004 will be released with the interim results on 13 May 2004.
Extension of Cautionary Announcement
As this updated trading statement has not been reviewed and reported on by the
Company"s auditors, shareholders and potential shareholders are advised to
continue to exercise caution in dealing in Tiger Brands" shares until the
release of the interim results on 13 May 2004.
