STATEMENT FROM BOND UNIVERSITY REGARDING ITS MBA PROGRAMME
Bond University today would like to provide the public with an update on the
announcement made on 20 May 2004 that Bond South Africa`s accreditation for the
MBA programme would not be renewed.
The negative recommendation of the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC)
regarding the re-accreditation of its MBA degree was primarily based on the
nature of the academic relationship with Bond University Australia. The reasons
given for the HEQC`s decision do not appear to allow for future accreditation of
foreign degrees in South Africa without the foreign institution relinquishing
direct control over its standards and course content.
Bond University is an internationally acclaimed Australian university with a
presence in three countries. The programmes offered at any Bond University
campus enjoy equal and undifferentiated recognition and all degrees awarded by
Bond University Australia reflect the international credibility of the
programmes.
Commenting on the quality of the Bond MBA programme, Bond Pro-Vice Chancellor,
Professor Dolina Dowling said:
`Australia has a strict government legislated system of quality assurance. This
has created a world class education system which ensures successful students
receive qualification of an international standard. The MBA programme offered
at Bond University meets the strict criteria stipulated by the Australian
government.`
The Bond MBA programme has been the recipient of many accolades including being
ranked 8th by employers in South Africa in the 2003 PMR survey, ranked amongst
the top performing MBA programmes in Australia in 2003 and the independent GCCA
CEQ survey indicates that the Bond University School of Business provides the
best teaching in the MBA programme of any university in Australia.
Responding to the HEQC report Professor Seepe, Head of the Advtech Advisory
Board and Vice Chancellor of Vista University, said:
`The Bond University MBA degree remains one of the most highly regarded MBA
qualifications internationally.`
Concluding, Professor Dolina Dowling, said: `We wish to assure the business
