TRADING STATEMENT AND CAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENT
Shareholders are hereby notified that Basil Read`s results for the six months
ending 30 June 2004 could be substantially lower than the unaudited results for
the six months ended 30 June 2003 (`substantially` being an decrease of 30% or
more as defined by the Listings Requirements of the JSE Securities Exchange
South Africa). The results for the six months ending 30 June 2004 have not been
reviewed and reported on by Basil Read`s auditors, and therefore shareholders
are advised to exercise caution when dealing in the company`s shares until the
publication of the interim results.
