DIRECTORATE RESIGNATIONS ON THE BOARD OF WESTERN AREAS LIMITED
In light of the announcement published today, relating to the acquisition of
Western Areas shares by an Empowerment Consortium (`Inkwenzikwezi Gold Mining
Consortium`) and Randgold & Exploration Company Limited from Anglo South Africa
Capital (Pty) Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Anglo American plc, the
Company announces the resignations of Mr. William Alan Nairn and Vincent Patrick
Uren and their respective alternates Mr David Duncan Barber and Mrs Jacqueline
Thomas withdraw respectively. Western Areas reports that while Anglo had been a
valued shareholder, it had become increasingly clear that Anglo was focussing
its gold exposure on its core holding in AngloGold Ashanti.
