RIGHTS OFFER SALIENT DATES
Further to the announcements published on 3 March 2004 and 10 June 2004, WAL
shareholders are advised that the salient dates in respect of the renounceable
rights offer of 13 172 042 new ordinary shares of 100 cents each (`rights offer
shares`) at a subscription price of 3 050 cents per share in the ratio of 12,5
rights offer shares for every 100 ordinary shares held, are as follows:

Last day to trade in existing ordinary shares cum
rights on the JSE on Friday, 25 June
Trading in WAL shares ex rights offer commences on Monday, 28 June
Listing and trading of letters of allocation on the
JSE commences at 09:00 on Monday, 28 June
Record date for the rights offer at the close of
business on Friday, 2 July
Rights offer opens at commencement of trading Monday, 5 July
Circular (and form of instruction issued to certificated
shareholders recorded in the relevant share register at
the record date) posted on Monday, 5 July
Last day to trade in letters of allocation Friday, 16 July
Rights offer shares listed Monday, 19 July
Rights offer closes at 12:00 on (see note 2) Friday, 23 July
Share certificates posted to certificated shareholders
who followed the rights offer on Monday, 26 July
Results of the rights offer and basis of allocation of
excess applications announced on SENS on Monday, 26 July
Accounts of dematerialised shareholders who followed
the rights offer updated and debited at their CSDP or
broker on Monday, 26 July
Results of the rights offer and basis of allocation of
excess applications published in the press on Tuesday, 27 July
Share certificates in respect of excess shares allocated
will be posted to certificated shareholders on or about Tuesday, 27 July
Dematerialised shareholders will have their accounts
updated in respect of excess shares allocated on Tuesday, 27 July
Notes:
1. No dematerialisation or rematerialisation of WAL ordinary shares may take
place between Monday, 28 June 2004 and Friday, 2 July 2004, both days
inclusive.
2. If you are a holder of dematerialised WAL shares, you are required to
notify your duly appointed CSDP or broker of your acceptance of the rights
offer in the manner and time stipulated in the agreement governing the
relationship between yourself and your CSDP or broker.
3. The dates and times above are subject to amendment. Details of any such
amendment will be published on SENS and in the press.
