MEDIA RELEASE
Pete Backwell, managing director of Retail and Wealth Management at Nedcor, has
resigned from the group following a decision to retire from corporate life.
Backwell has accepted a position as executive chairman of a Mpumalanga-based
agricultural business, H L Hall & Sons, with whom he has been associated for
several years in a non-executive capacity.
He has been with the group for the past 12 years, being appointed head of retail
banking in 2001, and to his present position in November 2003. He is a member of
the Nedcor Group Executive Committee.
Backwell plans to leave the group later in the year, and a short-list of
potential candidates has been identified to succeed him.
Nedcor chief executive, Tom Boardman, said Backwell`s resignation was a big loss
to the group, `but we respect Pete`s personal decision to leave the world of big
business`. `Pete has built a solid growth platform for our retail business and
developed a strong team within the division. We wish him every success in his
new environment and believe that he will be truly successful as he has been in
the banking sector.`
