NOTIFICATION IN TERMS OF PARAGRAPH 3.59 OF THE JSE LISTINGS REQUIREMENTS
Rupert Pardoe, Deputy Group Chief Executive of Absa Group Limited, has indicated
his intention not to renew his contract which expires on 31st August 2004.
Consequently, Mr Pardoe and Absa have agreed that he will leave the group`s
service with immediate effect, and he has, accordingly, resigned as an executive
director of Absa Bank Limited and Absa Group Limited, effective 9th July 2004.
He has also resigned all other Absa subsidiary company directorships.
Pardoe joined Absa in September 2001 and became a director of Absa Bank Limited
on 15th October 2001. He was made a director of Absa Group Limited on 8th
August 2002 and was appointed Deputy Group Chief Executive on 21st February
2003.
Dr Danie Cronje , Absa Group Chairman, thanked Mr Pardoe for his contribution to
the group.

Mr Pardoe`s portfolio of responsibilities will be handled by other executive
directors pending the announcement by Dr Steve Booysen, Group Chief Executive
designate, of his new executive structure, due to be announced before 1st August
2004.
