Trading statement and cautionary announcement
Shareholders are advised that the company`s earnings and headline earnings per
share for the six months ended 30 June 2004 are expected to be substantially
less than those for the comparative period (`substantially` is defined in the
Listings Requirements of the JSE Securities Exchange South Africa as being equal
to or greater than 30%).
The cause for the decline in the headline earnings has primarily been the
continued strength of the rand in the current 6 month trading period. The
weighted average value of goods upon which the majority of Spectrum`s earnings
are based has declined as a result of the increased strength of the rand.
Shareholders are therefore advised to exercise caution when dealing in the
company`s shares until publication of the financial results on or about 29th
July 2004.
