TRADING STATEMENT
Shareholders are advised that earnings and headline earnings including foreign
exchange differences for the year ended 30 June 2004 will be between 30% and 40%
higher than those of the prior comparative period and headline earnings
excluding foreign exchange differences will be between 10% and 20% higher than
those of the prior comparative period.
The forecast information provided in the trading update has not been reviewed
and reported on by Shoprites`s auditors. More details will be provided in
Shoprite`s year end results when published on or about 24 August 2004.
