APPOINTMENT OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
In accordance with the requirements of paragraph 3.59 of the Listings
Requirements, the following should be noted:
The board of directors of financial services group Absa Group Limited announces
the appointment of Mr Louis von Zeuner (42) as an executive director of the Absa
Group Limited board, effective 1 September 2004.
Mr von Zeuner has been an executive director on the board of Absa Bank Limited
since 2001 and is responsible for Absa`s retail banking operations including
Small Business, Flexi Banking Services, Retail Banking Services, Absa Home Loans
and Absa Card.
The appointment is in line with Absa`s practice to have three executives on the
Group board, namely the Group Chief Executive (Dr Steve Booysen, who has a
background in corporate and merchant banking), the financial director (Mr Frans
du Toit) and a retail banker (Mr Louis von Zeuner).
Mr von Zeuner, who has been with the Group for 22 years, started his career in
the Goodwood branch of Volkskas. He worked in the branch system until 1995, by
which time he had been branch manager of four branches. His appointment as
regional manager for the Northern Cape in Kimberley (1995-1996) elevated him to
Absa`s general management. In 2000, Mr von Zeuner moved to Absa head office,
where he became operating executive of Absa Commercial Bank. He holds a
bachelors degree in economics.
