APPOINTMENT OF MR ANDRE LOUW AS CHAIRMAN
The board of directors of Diamond Core is very pleased to announce that Mr AndrE
Louw has accepted the position of independent, non-executive chairman of the
company with effect from the next annual general meeting of shareholders, which
is due to be held in October. The exact date of the annual general meeting will
be announced in due course.
AndrE graduated from the University of Stellenbosch in 1973 with an honours
degree in geology and started his career as an exploration geologist at the
Okiep Copper Company and BP Minerals. He obtained an MBA in 1986 and worked as a
mining analyst at Sanlam from 1987 to 1991.
In 1991 he became the Managing Director of Ocean Diamond Mining, a diamond
producer off the west coast of South Africa and Namibia. After the takeover of
ODM in 1999 he spent a few months with Tahera Corporation in Canada. In 2000, he
returned to South Africa to take up the position of Executive Director
responsible for the Marine Division of the Trans Hex Group.
AndrE took early retirement from Trans Hex at the end of October last year and
started his own consulting business. AndrE has advised the board that he will
be continuing with his consulting activities, and that certain of his clients
are in the diamond industry. The board, its advisers and Mr Louw will ensure
that appropriate corporate governance principles are applied in order to manage
any possible conflicts of interest.
Theo Botoulas, the MD of Diamond Core, says `AndrE has many years of practical
experience in the South African diamond industry and we are delighted that he
has agreed to join Diamond Core at this exciting and challenging stage of the
company`s development. We look forward to a long and fruitful association with
him as the chairman of our board.`
Mr Paul Dollery, the current chairman of the company, will be resigning from the
board at the annual general meeting. We wish Mr Dollery every success in his
future business endeavours.
