Anglo Platinum smelter repair
Anglo Platinum wishes to announce that it has suspended smelting operations at
its Polokwane smelter to examine and repair elements of the smelter cooling
system. Initial indications are that the repair may result in the smelter being
off-line for approximately 6 weeks. Concentrate currently being sent to the
Polokwane smelter will be transported to the Waterval smelter in Rustenburg for
processing.
Anglo Platinum`s 2004 production profile and volumes are unlikely to be affected
due to its existing excess smelter capacity. The Polokwane smelter was
operating, as planned, at 50% of its capacity. High-grade concentrate will be
processed at Waterval during the shut down with stockpiled low-grade concentrate
being processed at a higher rate at Polokwane thereafter.
