CHANGES TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Shareholders are notified that Dr RML de FN Ribas has resigned as a Non-
executive Director of Mercantile with effect from 7 September 2004. Dr Ribas
was seconded to Mercantile by Caixa Geral de Depositos (`CGD`) to oversee its
recapitalisation, and following the completion of this exercise, he has been
reassigned back to CGD.
