Northam regrets to advise the death of an employee at its mine in the Limpopo
Province after a fire broke out underground early this morning.
Forty six employees who were working in the 13 level decline about 2,100 metres
underground were safely evacuated after the fire was detected. A further eight
employees remain unaccounted for.
Rescue teams from Northam and neighbouring mines are currently working their way
towards the affected area to reach these employees.
Production at the mine has been stopped until further notice.
