COMMENCEMENT OF LISTING OF PREFERENCE SHARES
FirstRand shareholders and other interested parties are advised that the
outstanding condition precedent in respect of the listing of 30 000 000 variable
rate non-redeemable, non-cumulative preference shares (`preference shares`) on
the JSE Securities Exchange South Africa has been fulfilled. Accordingly, the
listing of the preference shares will commence at 09:00 on Wednesday 10 November
2004.
