PRESS RELEASE
The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited R3 billion Senior Bond Issue
17 November 2004
The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited (`SBSA`) today placed a R3 billion
senior bond due in May 2010. The issue is the bank`s debut senior bond issue.
Previous bonds launched by the bank have been subordinated qualifying capital
issues. The proceeds of the new bond (SBS1) will be utilized for general
funding purposes.
The bond was launched at a spread of 65bps over the benchmark R153 bond to yield
a fixed semi-annual interest coupon of 9.00%; this is equivalent to a spread of
53bps over 3 month JIBAR based on current swap rates.
`This bond issue follows the SBK5 Tier II capital bond issue launched by the
bank last week and we are very pleased with the market`s reception of both
issues. The issue represents a diversification of the bank`s funding base and
we will look for further issue opportunities going forward` says Graham Everett,
Standard Bank Treasurer.
The bond was placed by Standard Bank Corporate and Investment Banking.
