City Lodge extends reach to George
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CAPE TOWN Hotel group City Lodge Hotels has expanded its geographical reach in SA by acquiring a site in George on which it will develop a Town Lodge at a cost of R38m, the group said at the weekend.
At the end of June, City Lodge had six Courtyard hotels, 11 City Lodges, seven Town Lodges and 13 Road Lodges.
The group`s hotels are clustered around SA`s main business centres. Between Cape Town and Durban, the only group presence has been three hotels in Port Elizabeth.
City Lodge CE Clifford Ross said George was seen as a major tourism centre, ideally located on the Garden Route.
The 120-room Town Lodge will be in the new Garden Route Mall, close to the Cape Town-Port Elizabeth national road, and should open in the third quarter of next year.
The group reported average occupancies of 76% across the group last year, boosting revenue by 15% to R335,8m.
