LNM Holdings And Ispat International Combine To Form Mittal Steel Company
Ispat Iscor Limited To Change Name And Re-Brand To Mittal Steel South Africa
Limited
LNM Holdings, the parent company of Ispat Iscor has combined with Ispat
International to form Mittal Steel Company (`Mittal Steel`).
The transaction was approved by shareholders of Ispat International at an
Extraordinary General Meeting held in Rotterdam on Wednesday, 15 December 2004.
The transaction closed on Friday, 17 December 2004. Mittal Steel will trade on
the New York Stock Exchange and Amsterdam Euronext under the ticker symbol `MT`,
Mittal Steel will be the world`s most global steel company, with operations in
fourteen countries, on four continents.
It was announced on 25 October 2004 that, subsequent to the transaction closing,
the new combined company would be named Mittal Steel Company and that all
principal subsidiary companies would also be re-named.
Mittal Steel intends to create a strong and unified global brand across all the
markets in which the company has a presence. This involved definition, through
research with a representative range of stakeholders of all types, of precisely
what the Mittal Steel brand stands for. Eight core values were identified:
Reliable, Authority, Confident, Expert, Innovative, Strong, Open and
Influential. Each value is specifically defined with reference to the company
itself. Subsequently, a new logo and other visual identity elements were
developed and will be phased in during 2005.
With this in mind, all subsidiary companies will use the new `Mittal` logo.
Their new names will lead with the company name, Mittal Steel, followed by
either the town or country in which they are located.
Subject to shareholder approval, Ispat Iscor will therefore be re-named Mittal
Steel South Africa Limited (`Mittal Steel South Africa`). This process is
expected to be completed within the first quarter of 2005.
A circular including a notice of general meeting providing details of the
special resolution to be passed will be posted to shareholders in due course.
Mittal Steel South Africa will be part of the world`s most global steel company.
This will provide us with many benefits, including access to an extensive
marketing platform, shared knowledge, technology and aggregated purchasing
power.
