Fire at Kloof Gold Mine successfully contained
MEDIA RELEASE
Johannesburg, 3 February 2005. The management of Gold Fields Limited (GFI: JSE
and NYSE) wishes to inform the market that an underground fire in the No 2 Sub-
vertical Shaft at Kloof Gold Mine near Westonaria had been successfully
contained and sealed off.
Impact on production is expected to be minimal as the event is localized and
production teams have been redeployed elsewhere on the mine. The situation is
being monitored and the area will be accessed only once safety conditions have
returned to normal.
The fire was first detected on the morning of Sunday 30 January. No employees
were injured or affected, as it was an off-duty shift.
