RENEWAL OF CAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENT
Shareholders are referred to the cautionary announcements released on SENS on 23
September 2004, 4 November 2004, 22 November 2004 and 10 January 2005 regarding
the discussions of the possible acquisition of a majority stake in Absa by
Barclays.
Discussions with Barclays are continuing, but shareholders are advised that no
agreement has been reached as to any offer being made by Barclays to acquire a
majority stake in Absa. In addition the outcomes of the Banks Act application,
which was submitted to the Registrar of Banks and Minister of Finance on 1
December 2004, and of a Competition Act application which was submitted to the
Competition Commission on 16 February 2005 are awaited.
Shareholders are advised to continue exercising caution when dealing in Absa
securities until a further announcement is made.
