DIRECTORATE APPOINTMENT ON THE BOARD OF WESTERN AREAS
Mr. John Roger Dixon has been appointed as a non-Executive Director on the board
of Western Areas, with effect from 10 March 2005. Mr Dixon played an important
role with the development of Target Mine at Anglovaal, and understands the
dynamics of mining a wide orebody.

ROGER DIXON APPOINTED TO WESTERN AREAS BOARD.
Ultra deep mining and mechanisation specialist, Roger Dixon, has joined the
Western Areas board as a non-executive director.
Dixon a consultant to SRK Consulting, having previously served in operational
capacities at Metorex, Avgold and Anglo American Gold and Uranium Divisions
since 1971.
Western Areas CEO, Brett Kebble, says Dixon will play an important guiding role
as the company`s South Deep Mine moves towards full production after the R4
billion Twin Shaft complex was commissioned late last year.
`He was involved in the development of the Target project, which has an ore body
similar to that South Deep and was one of the first fully mechanised mines in
South Africa. He has also been an industry leader in the field of safety and
health.`
