CHAIRMAN`S STATEMENT
FINANCIAL RESULTS
Although there was a marked reduction in the losses suffered by the group, the
results were below expectations.
Results are summarised as follows:
2004 2003
N$`000 N$`000
Revenue 91 815 86 704
Net loss before taxation (9 054) (14 075)
Loss after taxation (6 412) (9 754)
Headline earnings (6 522) (9 811)
The group`s inability to return to profitability is ascribed mainly to the
following:
The low level of the pilchard total allowable catch (TAC).
Poor infrastructure in Angola, resulting in delays with the diversification
initiatives into that country.
The effect of the strong Namibian dollar on proceeds from Angola.

PRODUCTION
The operation of the group`s pilchard canning factory was not feasible due to
the low level of pilchard quotas allocated for 2004. Only one pilchard canning
factory was operational in Walvis Bay and group vessels delivered all pilchard
catches to this factory for canning.
The group operated its fishmeal plant during the year under review and
industrial fish processed at the fishmeal plant included catches by private boat
owners and other factories.
Vessels operating in Angola caught 47,635 tons (2003: 19,367 tons) of industrial
fish, which was delivered to shore based facilities, operated by third parties,
for the production of fishmeal.
SALES
All canned fish stock was sold by the year end, however, the market for canned
pilchards, predominantly South Africa, remained fully supplied throughout the
year and prices were reduced in order to achieve these sales.
All fishmeal and fish oil production was sold by the year end. Fishmeal and
fish oil prices remained stable throughout the year and were in line with the
prices achieved in the previous year.
DIVIDENDS
The board has resolved that no dividends be declared nor are any recommended
(2003: Nil).
PROSPECTS
The Ministry of Fisheries & Marine Resources in Namibia granted a provisional
TAC of 20,000 tons of pilchard for 2005, which will be reviewed after a
scientific survey of the resource during March 2005.
Industrial fish catches during the first two months of 2005 were below
expectations, but appear to be improving.
Cost control and improved efficiencies are being addressed on a daily basis.
The group is cautiously optimistic that the year ahead could result in a return
to profitability. Such a turnaround will be largely dependent on successful
implementation of the diversification initiatives into Angola.
APPRECIATION
I take this opportunity to thank my fellow directors for their guidance and
counsel, the management of the group for its dedication and the staff and
fishermen for their loyalty in these trying times.
