Mouldmed - Press Release
MOULDED MEDICAL SUPPLIES LIMITED
(Registration number 1995/003771/06)
(`Mouldmed`)
(JSE Code: MUM & ISIN Code: ZAE000058731)
Press Release
Contract to offer the newly developed SMS Tourism Information System (STIS) via
the networks of Vodacom, MTN and Cell C
Since its listing in the Venture Capital sector of the JSE Securities Exchange
SA (`JSE`) in 1997 Mouldmed was involved in medical services, the development,
manufacturing and distribution of specialized medical equipment. In addition,
via its subsidiary Rest and Recuperation Retreats Limited (`RRR`), it became a
recognized force in medical and general tourism. In October 2004 Mouldmed
announced the acquisition by Mouldmed, subject to shareholders` approval, of a
49% interest in Route+27 RD (Pty) LTD (`Route`) a company producing a South
African Tourism Encyclopaedia , available on CD, which is the result of 8 years
of development.
On the 11th March 2005 Route concluded an agreement whereby the information
contained in the Route+27 Tourism Encyclopaedia will become available via cell
phone. This service will be accessible through the Vodacom, MTN and Cell C
networks by using their SMS messaging systems. Included will be the ability to
access information on any city or suburb in South Africa including
accommodation, restaurants, banks, car rental, attractions, emergency services,
culture, nature, sports, ecotourism, general information, town descriptions,
history, and many other services which are still to be added. This service
will go live during the month of April 2005.
RRR and its licensees, trading as RRRTravel.com, will share extensively in the
benefits of this agreement. The Licensees of RRR will be tasked with the
contracting of additional advertisers and will share in the income generated by
this service over and above the share of profits enjoyed by RRR.
Mouldmed, with its database of contacts built up since 1994, and the Cellphone
networks, are at an advanced stage to grow the Tourism SMS service on an
International basis, by expanding RRR Internationally and duplicating the system
in other countries.
This service is expected to generate substantial income for Route, in South
Africa alone. 10% of the turnover of Route, which is generated as a result of
this agreement, will be distributed to the Licensees of RRR in return for their
assistance in maintaining the information available on the system. The RRR
licensees will also earn a commission on all new advertisers brought to Route.
RRR earns a royalty of 7,5% of the turnover of its licensees.
As RRR holds a 49% interest in Route and Mouldmed, in turn, holds a 71% interest
in RRR, the above agreement will also have a substantial effect on the income
and profits of Mouldmed.
