BASIS OF ACCOUNTING
The accounts have been prepared in accordance with South African Statements of
Generally Accepted Accounting Standards. The accounting policies used are
consistent with the prior years.
RESULTS
Competition in the labour market continues to be very tough for the Group`s
labour business, Denverdraft. Never-the-less there are more enquiries coming in
and some exciting proposals that the group is expecting to be awarded as a
result of several fixed capital investment projects currently underway.
In the balance of the group, it is notable that the group`s investment in Kairos
has appreciated, the effect of which is reflected in these results. Also of note
is that the group`s legal issue with the liquidators of Brightstone Resources
has been postponed indefinitely and is unlikely to come up on the court role
before 2006.
CONTINGENT LIABILITIES
As reported in the group annual financial statements for the year ending June
2004, a subsidiary of the Group had received enquiries from the South African
Revenue Services with regard to the deduction of employee`s tax. Since the
publication of those accounts the Group has engaged SARS in the alternative
dispute resolution process with some success; however, the matter remains
unresolved at this stage and thus remains a contingent liability.
AUDITOR`S REVIEW OPINION
In accordance with 3.18 (b) of the JSE listings requirements, the interim
results of the group have been reviewed by the auditors, BDO Spencer Steward
(Johannesburg) Inc. A copy of their opinion is available for inspection at the
Group`s offices at 23 Fricker Road, Illovo, Johannesburg.
The auditors have reviewed the interim financial statements for the 6 months
ended 31 December 2004, presented herewith. They have no reason to believe that
these financial statements do not fairly present the financial position of the
group and the results and cash flows of the Group for the 6 months then ended.
