swaps entered into at the request of the client and in the ordinary course of
business. Insofar as the short sale may have constituted a technical
infringement of Rule 4 of the Rules of the Securities Regulation Code
condonation from the Securities Regulation Panel has been sought and, after
consultation with Absa, obtained. The terms of the Scheme of Arrangement being
proposed by Barclays Bank PLC between Absa Group Limited and certain of its
ordinary shareholders and the Recommended Offer by Barclays Bank PLC to Absa
Group Limited shareholders are accordingly unaffected.
