CADIZ APPOINTS NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE AND DEPUTY CHAIRMAN
Cape Town - Specialist financial services group Cadiz Holdings has announced the
appointments of Ray Cadiz to a newly-created position of executive deputy
chairman and Ram Barkai as chief executive officer with effect from 1 August.
Ray Cadiz (42), co-founder of the group and chief executive for the past 12
years, will focus externally on corporate client relationships and strategic
marketing in his new role, while also facilitating leadership development and
advancement of the corporate culture within Cadiz.
Ram Barkai (47), who was previously deputy chief executive, will assume all the
operational responsibilities held by Ray Cadiz and has been appointed to the
board of directors of Cadiz Holdings.
After starting his career in the computer industry in his native Israel, Barkai
gained experience in financial markets in Tokyo and Hong Kong. He moved to South
Africa in 1996 and joined Cadiz to start its structured solutions division, from
which Cadiz Specialised Asset Management (CSAM) evolved. He was managing
director of CSAM until his promotion to deputy chief executive of Cadiz Holdings
in June last year.
Colin Hall, the non-executive chairman of Cadiz Holdings, said these
appointments allow the group `to retain the wisdom and skills of both Ray and
Ram in an executive role, while at the same time bringing change and a resultant
revitalisation of the management team. These moves follow on from the extensive
internal changes which were made within senior management in mid 2004 to create
growth opportunities for the younger professionals within Cadiz.`
