Acquisition of Plessey
Dimension Data South Africa (Pty ) Limited today announced that it will acquire
Worldwide African Investment Holdings (Proprietary) Limited"s 51% interest in
Plessey (Proprietary) Limited for ZAR120 million (one hundred and twenty
million South African Rand) in cash.
Plessey is a leading supplier of telecommunications solutions to the African
continent. The company has undertaken projects in 19 African countries with
regional offices currently in eight countries: South Africa, Nigeria,
Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Mauritius.
Plessey employs over 250 people across South Africa, Nigeria and East Africa.
The complementary nature of Dimension Data"s and Plessey"s skills and
experience, together with Plessey"s established African footprint, provides a
strong market offering to the telecommunications industry throughout the
continent - providing a single partner and point of contact. Dimension Data has
held its existing 49% shareholding in Plessey since 1998.
As at 31 March 2005 Plessey had gross assets of ZAR406,1 million and generated
turnover of ZAR890 million and profit before tax of ZAR67,4 million in the
year to 31 March 2005.
