Absa today announced the resignation of Leslie Boyd, one of the Group"s
independent non-executive directors.
Boyd, who has been on the Absa board since 1988, will step down from the board
effective 30 December 2005.
Dr Danie Cronje, Absa Group Chairman, said:
"Although Leslie was re-elected by shareholders at the 2005 AGM, he would have
retired from the board in early 2007. Given that he was nearing the compulsory
retirement age and coupled with the need to create capacity on the board as part
of Absa"s overall board transformation programme, he elected to step down as a
director."
Cronje further added:
"We are sorry to lose someone of Leslie"s calibre and his unstinting
contributions and wise counsel provided to the board over many years will be
missed."
Although Boyd served on the board from 1988, his association with Absa (then
United Building Society) goes as far back as 1979, when he served on the then
Eastern Transvaal Local Board in Witbank. He was a member of the Group
Remuneration Committee and the Credit Committee: Large Exposures.
