Consol Limited - Trading Update
CONSOL LIMITED

("Consol" or "the Group")
TRADING UPDATE
Consol is releasing the following statement for the five months ended 30
November 2005 ("the period") prior to the commencement of its "closed period"
after 15 December 2005. The "closed period" will end with the release of
Consol"s interim results for the six months ending 31 December 2005, which are
expected to be issued on or about 13 March 2006.
Consumer demand within key market segments was positive contributing to Group
growth in volume by 12.3% and revenue by 10.9% as compared to the prior period.
Notwithstanding the slightly lower revenue growth resulting from a change in
sales mix, the operating profit margin is in line with the prior year.
The glass division showed good growth in all major categories for the period
with volumes 12.8% above the prior period. Revenue grew by 13.4% with product
mix changes partially limiting the impact of selling price increases, which were
in the 2% to 3% range.
The plastics division sales performance, representing 9.7% of Group revenue,
declined compared to the prior period with volume and revenue down by 7.9% and
12.4% respectively. In general this segment continued to be affected by the
strong rand, increased cost of raw materials partially recovered from the market
and lower volumes due to imports and increased local competitor activity.
SEGMENTAL REVENUE FOR THE FIVE MONTHS ENDED 30 NOVEMBER 2005

General consensus is that consumer demand will remain buoyant in line with GDP
growth and as a consequence key market segments, specifically the beverage and
food industries, are expected to generate commensurate growth. Wine export
growth may be lower than anticipated due in part to a strong rand, increased
competitor activity and global wine surpluses. Given that market demand
fundamentals remain sound, business prospects are expected to remain positive.
