TRADING STATEMENT
The Listings Requirements of the JSE Limited require that listed companies
publish a trading statement when the financial results for the next financial
period to be reported, vary from those of the comparable period by 20% or more.
Shareholders are reminded that as a result of Kumba"s change in year-end from 30
June to 31 December in 2004, the financial results for the year ended 31
December 2005 are not comparable to the audited financial results for the 18
months ended 31 December 2004. The financial results for the new financial year
ended 31 December 2005 are therefore being compared with the unaudited results
for the corresponding period ended 31 December 2004, as disclosed in Kumba"s
2004 Annual Report.
Kumba has benefited from higher commodity prices, most notably the 71.5%
increase for iron ore in April 2005, together with the results of the
comprehensive business improvement programme which delivered increased
production and sales volumes in all the commodities.
As a result, Kumba"s attributable- and headline earnings per share for the full
year ended 31 December 2005 are expected to exceed the comparative unaudited
attributable- and headline earnings per share for the year ended 31 December
2004 by between 355% and 375%, and 190% and 210%, respectively. The large
variance between the attributable- and headline earnings ranges is primarily due
to the post tax impact of the proceeds received on 1 July 2005 for the Hope
Downs Project which is excluded from headline earnings.
The financial information in this trading statement has not been reviewed or
reported on by Kumba"s auditors.
The results for the full year ended 31 December 2005 are expected to be
published on or about 17 February 2006.
