CAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENT
On 31 August 2005 Edcon advised shareholders that it would be forming a team to
explore any possible opportunities for the Company which might arise out of the
announcement by Coles Myer Ltd that it was considering its ownership options
regarding its Myer chain in Australia.
Following extensive investigation, and mindful of what is in the best interests
of shareholders, Edcon will be submitting an offer for Myer, which, if accepted,
may have a material effect on the price of Edcon"s securities. Accordingly,
shareholders are advised to exercise caution when dealing in the Company"s
securities until a further announcement is made.
