LAUNCH OF ABSA CAPITAL
Absa has launched a new investment bank to the market. To be known as Absa
Capital, it represents a combination of the global expertise of Barclays Capital
and the specialist local knowledge of Absa Corporate and Merchant Bank (ACMB).
Absa Capital, headquartered in Johannesburg, will be affiliated with London-
based Barclays Capital. John Vitalo, former chief operating officer of Rates at
Barclays Capital, is to head up the new investment bank.
The name Absa Capital best recognises and leverages the strengths of the Absa
brand in the local market, while still indicating the close working relationship
with Barclays Capital through the use of the endorsed brand "affiliated with
Barclays Capital".
Absa Capital is positioned to serve its customers in debt capital market funding
initiatives in a wide range of currencies and structures across the globe. The
building of such a world-class operation is not seen as a short-term strategy
and the enduring value in the business will unfold over a number of years.
