COMMENTS ON RESULTS
The management and personnel of Indequity continues to build on the annuity
base established over the previous three years. The positive effect of this
strategy on the Group"s financial position is slowly becoming a reality. Both
the Insurance and Investment divisions performed exceptionally with strong
growth in the revenue flows.
PROSPECTS
The Group expects the positive trend in the business to continue through the
remainder of the financial year.

ACCOUNTING POLICIES AND BASIS OF PREPARATION
The condensed interim financial statements for the six months ended 31 March
2006 were prepared in accordance with the principles of International
Financial Reporting Standards ("IFRSs") for interim financial statements, IAS
34 - Interim Financial Reporting and in compliance with the Listing
Requirements of the JSE Limited. These are the group"s first IFRS condensed
interim financial statements for part of the period for which annual
financial statements will be prepared in terms of IFRS.
IFRS 1 - First-time adoption of IFRS has been applied and for detail on the
adjustments please refer to the note below. The condensed interim financial
statements do no include all of the information required by IFRS for full
annual financial statements.
The financial information has been prepared in accordance with IFRSs that are
currently effective. This may differ from IFRS finally in effect at 30
September 2006 as a result of ongoing global developments and possible
amendment by interpretive guidance from the International Financial Reporting
Interpretations Committee of International Accounting Standards Board.
EFFECT OF FIRST TIME ADOPTION OF IFRS
The date of transition to IFRS for the Group is 1 October 2004. In prior
periods the Group prepared its financial statements in accordance with SA
GAAP, but the opening balance sheet at 1 October 2004 has now been prepared
in accordance with all existing IFRSs expected to be applicable at 30
September 2006 which have been complied consistently from the date of
transition.
At transition, IFRS 1 allows a number of exemptions to the retrospective
application principle. The Group made the following elections relating to the
transitional arrangements:
Property, plant and equipment - There were no adjustments to the value of
property, plant and equipment as the residual values and useful lives of the
assets were considered reasonable in terms of IAS 16, Property, Plant and
Equipment.
Share-based payments - To date no share options have been granted in terms of
the share option scheme.
Financial Instruments: Presentation and Disclosure - The group has elected
not to prepare comparative information that complies with IAS 32, Financial
Instruments: Presentation and Disclosure
IAS 39 Financial Instruments: Recognition and Measurement - The group has
elected not to prepare comparative information that complies with IAS 39,
Financial Instruments: Recognition and Measurement
The first time adoption of IFRS 4 - Insurance contracts, did not have any
significant impact on the recognition and measurement of assets and
liabilities in respect of insurance contracts for the period. The group"s
comprehensive consolidated financial statements for the year-ending 30
September 2006 will present the additional disclosure required by IFRS 4.
The first time adoption of IAS 36 and IFRS 3 resulted in a reversal of the
amortisation charge for the year ended 30 September 2005. Goodwill which was
previously carried at cost less accumulated amortisation and accumulated
impairment is now assessed only for impairment on an annual basis. The effect
on net income/ (loss) is summarised below. For the effect on equity please
refer to the "Condensed consolidated interim statement of changes in equity".
