RENEWAL OF CAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENT
On 23 August, 2006, Aveng advised shareholders to exercise caution when dealing
in Aveng shares based on the announcement by Holcim Limited (Switzerland)
("Holcim") that it had entered into discussions which could lead to the sale of
85% of its 54% interest in Holcim (South Africa) (Proprietary) Limited ("Holcim
SA") to the AfriSam Consortium, a black economic empowerment vehicle controlled
by Bunker Hill Investments, an investment company led by Mr. Eltie Links, former
ambassador of South Africa to the European Union.
Both Aveng and Holcim are committed to transformation and are constructively
working together to implement a sustainable, black economic empowerment
transaction in Holcim SA, and are confident that they will reach a mutually
acceptable outcome for Aveng, Holcim and the potential new stakeholders in
Holcim SA.
Aveng shareholders are advised to continue to exercise caution when dealing in
Aveng shares.
