Securities Regulation Panel - Offer By Gold Fields Limited To Acquire
The Entire Issued Share Capital Of
Western Areas Limited

Further to its announcement of 9 October 2006, the Executive Committee of the
Securities Regulation Panel received submissions in relation to the offer by
Gold Fields Limited ("Gold Fields") to acquire the entire issued share capital
of Western Areas Limited ("Western Areas"). Having reviewed the submissions,
the Executive Committee has decided to follow the following procedure in the
hearing to be held on Friday, 13 October 2006:
1 All parties will be permitted to have legal representation at the hearing.
2 The hearing will commence at 09:30 at the offices of the Securities
Regulation Panel at 2 Sherborne Road, Parktown, Johannesburg.
3 Each of the parties that have made submissions, being Gold Fields and
Western Areas, will be afforded an opportunity to:
3.1 make oral submissions to the Executive Committee; and
3.2 answer questions which the Executive Committee may have in relation to
the transactions entered into by Gold Fields in relation to Western Areas.
4 Each party that has not made a submission to the Executive Committee, but
wishes to do so at the hearing, will be afforded an opportunity to make
oral submissions to the Executive Committee, subject to such time
limitations as may reasonably be imposed.
5 Each of the parties will be afforded one opportunity to reply to any
submissions made by the other parties.
Parties who have not made written submissions and who wish to make oral
submissions at the hearing, are requested to notify the Executive Director by
not later than 17:00 on Thursday, 12 October 2006.
