ELAND PLATINUM AWARDS MAJOR DEVELOPMENT AND OPERATING CONTRACTS
Eland Platinum has awarded the contracts for the open pit mining, underground
development and mining and concentrator operation at its Elandsfontein Platinum
Mine near Brits.
The open pit mining contract has been awarded to MCC Contracts (Pty) Ltd. which
will start work in the first quarter of 2007, subject to the granting of the
mining right. The four-year contract will involve the mining of approximately
3.5 million tonnes of ore and waste rock per month.
Shaft Sinkers Mining (Pty) Ltd. has been selected as the underground development
and mining contractor, and is currently engaged in detailed design work via a
bridging agreement. Underground development is scheduled to begin in the fourth
quarter of 2007. The contract provides for the mining of 250 000 tonnes of ore
per month.
The contract for the operation of the concentrator has been awarded to Minopex
(Minerals Operations Executive (Pty) Ltd.), a subsidiary company of DRA Mineral
Projects (Pty) Ltd. which will build the concentrator in terms of a previously
announced contract.
