Further to the announcement on 20 December 2006 in terms of which Gold Fields
announced that the offer to Western Areas Limited ("Western Areas") shareholders
would be extended and the closing date changed to 26 January 2007, Gold Fields
and Western Areas shareholders are hereby advised that as at 12:00 on Friday 22
December 2006, acceptances of the offer have been received in respect of a total
of 70 810 383 offer shares (which constitute 43.8 % of the offer shares).
Combined with the 29 164 206 Western Areas shares held by Gold Fields prior to
the offer and the 36 957 844 Western Areas shares and options acquired from JCI
Limited, Gold Fields currently owns 136 932 433 Western Areas shares, which
constitute 84,7% of the entire issued share capital of Western Areas.
