Announcement of the acceptances received to date pursuant to the offer to
acquire the entire issued share capital of Western Areas Limited
("Western Areas") other than those shares already owned by Gold Fields
and JCI Limited and its subsidiaries) (`the offer")
1. Acceptances under the Offer
Gold Fields hereby announces that at 16:00 on Thursday, 18 January 2007,
valid acceptances of the offer had been received in respect of a total of
88,527,936 ordinary shares in Western Areas ("Western Areas shares")
(representing 92.5% of the offer shares). Combined with the 66,122,050
Western Areas shares already held by Gold Fields, Gold Fields has a 95.6%
interest in Western Areas.
2. Intention to invoke section 440K
Shareholders of Western Areas are hereby advised that Gold Fields intends
invoking Section 440K of the Companies Act ("Section 440K").
3. Further announcement
A further announcement will be made in due course providing greater
detail and clarity on the invocation of Section 440K.
