CHANGES TO THE SALLIES BOARD AND TOM DALE APPOINTED CHAIRMAN
Johannesburg, 16 February 2007 - Mining industry doyen Tom Dale has
accepted an appointment as chairman of Sallies Limited, the fluorspar
miner announced today. Dale, a former managing director of Gold Fields,
will join the Sallies board and assume the chairmanship with immediate
effect.
Dale has a distinguished career in the South African mining and mining
finance industries, having started as a miner and worked his way up to
mine manager and acting general manager at Western Areas Gold Mine. He
was also a senior manager in the minerals division at Gencor and a gold
analyst and head of research at stockbroker Ed Hern, Rudolph.
"It is great to have someone of Tom Dale`s pedigree and mining experience
leading the Sallies` board into what we see as a very exciting future for
the company," said Sallies chief executive Izak Marais.
At the same time Johann Blersch, an investment banker and a previous
chief executive of Citi Group Global Markets, has also been appointed as
a non-executive director to the board with immediate effect. He is a
chartered accountant, and the holder of an MBA.
Marais noted that the Sallies executive team had been strengthened
further through the appointment of Prinsloo Potgieter, formerly financial
manager of Rustenburg Platinum`s Amandelbult section, as group financial
manager. Marais said that through these appointments, the company has re-
affirmed its strategy to grow aggressively into becoming a diversified
miner.
The company also announced the resignation of non-executive directors
Alastair Moffat and Lindsay Robertson (with immediate effect), the
remaining members of the FRM Strategies team who were retained four years
ago to help turn Sallies around. Moffat and Robertson said with Sallies
now stabilised and soundly positioned for a return to profitability, and
with a new chairman in place, their task was done.
