ALTECH SECURES ORDERS VALUED AT R400 MILLION
Altech today announced that it has secured in excess of R400 million worth of
new orders as they move into the 2007 financial year, this in addition to
pipeline business already secured during the 2006 year.
These include a significant new customer for digital set-top-boxes in India,
additional Multichoice orders on the back of the successful 2006 PVR
rollout, an asset tracking order for Spoornet, and an emergency service
Digital Tetra wireless communication system for the South African Police
force in Cape Town.
Says CEO Craig Venter "We have entered the new year not only with the strongest
secured pipeline we have ever had, but with significant and prestigious new
customers, both locally and internationally. These successes have occurred
across the spectrum of the Altech group. The set-top-box deal in India is
one of our largest ever, and is taking place in one of the most rapidly
developing Pay TV markets in the world. We are confident that the initial
order received from Sun TV, some 250k units, is just the tip of a large
iceberg. Altech UEC has worked hard to open this new market for nearly two
years, and their efforts have now been acknowledged with the receipt of
this initial order."
Altech Alcom Matomo, which landed the R500 million Gauteng SAPS Digital Tetra
emergency wireless communications system two years ago, has been looking to
capitalize on this success. Says Venter, "The experience gained in rolling
out Gauteng for SAPS, the subsequent strengthening of our expertise in this
area, uniquely established us to win the Cape Town contract, placing the
company well for further growth in the run up to World Cup Soccer 2010."
In addition, Altech Alcom Matomo has secured a significant contract to supply
state of the art tracking units to satisfy the Spoornet locomotive tracking
requirements."
Venter concluded by noting that these new strategic successes are only part of a
number of large new contracts under consideration, and could well presage a
spate of new markets and customers across all group companies.
