NEW BOARD APPOINTMENT AT PICK `N PAY STORES LIMITED
(Cape Town, 13 March 2007) Jeff van Rooyen has been appointed effect as an
Independent Non-Executive Director of Pick `n Pay Stores Limited, effective 5
March 2007. He also joins the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee, where he is
set to succeed Colin Hultzer as Chairman of that committee.
Mr Van Rooyen is founder and chief executive of Uranus Investment Holdings, as
well as non-executive director of MTN Group Limited, chairman of the Oversight
Committee of the South African Venture Capital and Private Equity Association,
member of the Advisory Committee Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences of
the University of Pretoria, special adviser to Namibia Financial Institutions
Supervisory Authority, chairman of the Audit Committee of the North West
provincial government and member of the Standing Advisory Committee on Company
Law.
One of the first four black partners at Deloitte & Touche, where he remained for
10 years, Mr Van Rooyen is also a former CEO of the Financial Services Board, a
founder member and former president of the Association for the Advancement of
Black Accountants, a founder member of the National Black Business Caucus, and a
former chairperson of the Public Accountants and Auditors Board. He has
represented the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants on the Eastern,
Central and Southern African Federation of Accountants, and has advised local,
provincial and national government on economic issues.
