Following approval by the FTSE/JSE Advisory Committee and meeting the market
requirement of making FTSE/JSE rules simple and transparent, it has become
necessary to update Appendix B of the Calculation Guide with immediate effect.
This appendix deals with practices governing treatment of dividends. The
following practice will be removed from the calculation Guide:
CIRCUMSTANCE RULE/ACTION
Special/extraordinary Each declaration is considered on a case by
dividend declared for the case basis. It may be deemed a regular dividend
third consecutive year in which case it is added to the dividend into
the running total, however this action will
only occur where a company does not ordinarily
pay out dividends or does not have a firm
dividend policy.
All special dividends will be treated as capital reductions, and shown in the CA
Schedule as event type IS.
